Ghorasal Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory in Narsingdi is expected to go into production by the end of 2023.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited (MHI) and China National Chemical Engineering No 7 Construction Co Ltd (CC-7) are jointly constructing the factory.

It is being constructed at the place of the existing two fertiliser factories - Urea Fertilizer Factory Limited (UFFL) and Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory Limited (PUFFL).

According to BSS, around 80 per cent of the construction work of the project was completed so far.

Zakia Sultana, secretary to the Ministry of Industries, said Ghorasal Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory will be the largest factory in the country's industrial sector.

It will have an annual production capacity of 924,000 metric tonnes.

She informed that the new factory will help the country reduce the import of urea fertiliser and save hard-earned foreign currency.

Project Director of the Ghorashal-Polash Urea Fertilizer Project Md Rajiour Rahman Mollick informed that the government has a plan to produce some 2,800 metric tonnes of granular urea a day in the factory.

He said the environmental pollutant Carbon-Di-Oxide (CO2) will be captured from the primary reformer flue gas for the first time in the country.

“The production of urea fertiliser will be increased by about 10 per cent by using the captured CO2,” he added.
