The government has appointed tax cadre official Ahsan Habib as the acting chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

A 15th batch officer of the income tax cadre, Ahsan replaces Abdur Rahman Khan, reports bdnews24.com.

He previously served as director general of the NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) and is a member of the board overseeing tax administration and human resource management.

The public administration ministry announced the appointment on Monday.

Ahsan has also been appointed acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division.

He was appointed head of the CIC at the outset of the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government’s tenure, and quickly drew attention by pursuing tax evasion cases against several major industrial conglomerates.

Ahsan was later promoted and appointed as an NBR member shortly before the general election.
