The victims of the student protest in July-August, which forced former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to fled the country, will get grants, as the interim government has decided to form a foundation.

A decision has been taken to establish the foundation for the families of the martyred students as well as to provide healthcare facilities to the injured students in line with the directives of Chief Advisor (CA) Muhammad Yunus.

The initiative is currently in the process of implementation, according to a statement from the health ministry on Wednesday. Those who have already paid their medical bills would get grants from the foundation, it added.

Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum already visited various hospitals like National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and National Institute of Ophthalmology, to ensure proper treatment of the injured students.

She spoke in details about the medical arrangements with the injured students in the hospitals along with their directors and doctors.

During her visit to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, she directed the hospital authorities to stop keeping ambulances in front of the hospital, remove illegal shops, stop people from roaming unnecessarily to curb infection, and ensure proper treatment.

Many of those, injured in the anti-discrimination and anti-government movement, are in need of better eye care. Many are partially or completely blind. Many students are at risk of paralysis, she said while talking to reporters there.

The government is trying to bring specialist foreign doctors for treatment of the injured with the help of some non-profit organisations, and there would be a positive response soon, she hoped.

Meanwhile, many national organisations, especially the Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Industry Association, and drug manufacturing companies, in a view-exchange meeting at the health ministry on Tuesday expressed their desire to provide free medicine to the students under treatment and take their responsibility for better treatment.
