Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Wednesday said the government will establish a new paper mill on the land of the closed Khulna Newsprint Mills Limited in Khulna.
“At present, the total land of Khulna Newsprint Mills Limited and Khulna Hardboard Mills Limited is 47.57 acres,” he said while responding to a starred question placed by ruling party lawmaker Mohammad Ebadul Karim in the Jatiya Sangsad here.
Humayun said the government has planned to set up a new paper mill on 42.31 acres land of Khulna Newsprint Mills Limited, which was closed in 2002, while it will build a fabricated godown with capacity of 15,000 metric tonnes fertiliser on 5.16 acres of land.
He informed the House that there are seven closed mills here under the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), including Newsprint Mills Limited, Khulna Hardboard Mills Limited, Dhaka Leather Company Limited and North Bengal Paper Mills Limited.
Besides, the industries minister said, now there are four closed mills in the country under the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), including Bangladesh Steel Industries Limited and Rahim Metal Industries Limited, reports BSS.
