Hasina congratulates Pranab on winning ‘Bharat Ratna’

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday congratulated former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee as he was honoured with his country's highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna'.

Sheikh Hasina greeted Pranab over telephone on Saturday morning, said the Press Wing of the Prime Minister's Office.

On Friday, Pranab Mukherjee and two others --Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Nanaji Deshmukh and singer Bhupen Hazarika- were conferred the award.

Of them, Deshmukh and Bhupen Hazarika were given the award posthumously. Bharat Ratna was conferred after a gap of four years, reports UNB.

Pranab Mukherjee was the president of India from 2012 to 2017.
