Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has said it will take necessary organisational action regarding Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam after collecting and verifying information about allegations circulating in the media and on social platforms.
Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, the party’s assistant secretary general and head of its central publicity and media department, said this in a statement on Tuesday.
“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is closely monitoring reports recently published in various media outlets and on social media concerning Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam,” the statement said.
It added that statements from Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first and second wives, and the father of his second wife had already appeared in the media.
The party said it would investigate the matter further and take necessary action in accordance with its organisational rules after establishing the facts and collecting relevant information.
The statement came after a purported video showing the Jamaat MP in a private moment with a young woman went viral on social media.
The video has been circulating online since Monday night.
