Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Friday expressed his opinion in favour of the bifurcation of all service providing agencies into North and South.
“The Prime minister bifurcated the then DCC in 2011 to provide improved services to the city dwellers, which was a visionary decision. If the 56 service providing agencies are split into North and South under an umbrella of two city authroities, the quality of service will improve,” said Khokon.
The mayor made the remark at a press conference while answering a question from the media regarding his opinion on the proposal of DWASA’s bifurcation by a parliamentary standing committee on Thursday.
The DSCC organised the programme to mark the completion of his fourth year in the office.
“Lack of coordination among the agencies is one of the major hurdles in ensuring proper city management," Khokon said at the event, adding that human resources, administrative and financial capacity of the service providing agencies have not increased in commensurate with the demand of time.
Regarding his future plan, the mayor said he wants to mordanise the old part of the city. He will also prioritise the implementation of the master plan undertaken for the newly added eight unions with the DSCC.
Successful completion of the ongoing projects is also on his agenda in his last year as mayor.
