M. Munir-Uz-Zaman, Former Secretary and Ambassador of the Government of Bangladesh passed away

M. Munir-Uz-Zaman, Ex CSP 1958 batch, Former Secretary and Ambassador of the Government of Bangladesh, has passed away on Thursday, the 28th of May, 10th Jilhajj at 2:00 PM peacefully due to old age complications at his residence. Innalillahe Wa Innaelaihe Rajiun. He was 90.
With his sad demise the country has lost a patriotic and prolific top bureaucrat and diplomat and worthy son of the soil.
The country’s bureaucracy will always remember his lifelong contributions. An old University of Dhaka, University of Cambridge, UK and Williams College, USA alumni, Zaman was known for his uncompromising contributions to uphold the National interest above all.
He started his chequered career as a proud Bengali member of the Elite eartswhile Civil Service of Pakistan belonging to batch 1958.
During pre-liberation Bangladesh, he served as the SDO Kishoreganj, ADC Comilla, DC Bogra, Deputy Secretary, External Finance Division, Central Government of Pakistan, Chairman, EPSCIC and in post Liberation Bangladesh, he acsended to the top level and served as the Secretaries to the Ministry of Power, Water, Energy and Mineral Resources, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Relief and Disaster Management, Environment and Climate Change, External Resources Division (Currently Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance) among other Nationally important portfolios.
Post his retirement, he served at the World Bank Group as a senior consultant. Later, he served as the chief consultant to the Honourable Prime Minister Marhuma Begum Khaleda Zia on White paper Cell and finally as the Bangladesh’s ambassador to the Philippines before moving into complete retirement.
He was the eldest son of Late M. Tofazzal Hossain, Ex MLA of the Bengal Legislative Assembly of the British Bengal and a renowned Calcutta educated Zaminder of Chowgacha, Jashore. He left behind his wife, two sons, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
His first Namaze Janaza will be held at the Gulshan Azad Mosque on Friday, 29th of May Baad Jummah.
