The ancestral home of renowned actress and producer Meher Afroz Shaon in Jamalpur district was set on fire on Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred around 6 pm at the house, located near Nurundi Railway Station in Sadar Upazila.
Witnesses said that a group of agitated students and locals were involved in setting the property ablaze.
This house is owned by Ms Shaon’s father, Mohammad Ali, a former Awami League candidate for the Jamalpur-5 (Sadar) constituency in the 12th parliamentary polls; it is his family property.
Her mother, Begum Tahura Ali, served as a lawmaker for the reserved women’s seat during the 1996-2001 and 2009-2014 terms.
Ms Shaon herself was also a candidate for the Awami League’s reserved women’s seat in a previous election.
Fire service officials confirmed that they were working to bring the fire under control.
