Old Dhaka chemical warehouse fire leaves two dead

At least two people have died after a fire broke out in a chemical warehouse in Old Dhaka’s Armanitola on Friday.

The fire on the ground floor of Haji Musa Mansion also left 25 people, including three firemen, injured.

As many as 19 units of the fire service tamed the flames at around 6 am after the fire started at 3.15 am, reports bdnews24.com.

The dead include a woman identified as Suraiya, 22, said Mahfuz Riven, an official of the Fire Service Control Room.

Those injured in the incident were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

They are yet to receive a detailed report on the death of the two victims, he said.

Fire Service staff cut the grilles at balconies and windows and rescued the residents stuck on the rooftop of the six-storey building, Riven said.

The authorities were yet to determine the source of the fire.

The building had a chemical warehouse and shops on its ground floor, while families lived on the other floors, said locals.
