A group of attackers vandalised the home of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader in Rangpur’s Senpara area on Thursday night.
The incident occurred around 8:45 PM when the assailants shattered windows and set fire to a motorcycle at the residence, according to local media.
Former mayor and Jatiya Party Co-Chairman Mostafizar Rahman alleged that members of the NCP and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were behind the attack. Earlier in the day, GM Quader had arrived in Rangpur from Dhaka and addressed the press from his home.
In protest of Quader's presence in the city, which the student group labelled as "an ally of the Awami League," the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement organised a rally and march. The group denied involvement in the attack, claiming they were conducting a peaceful protest and were instead attacked by Jatiya Party supporters.
Police and army personnel were later deployed to the scene.
