Government desperate to hold ‘Hasina-style’ election, says GM Quader

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has accused the interim government of “aggressively” preparing for a unilateral election, warning it will not escape consequences by following what he called the “Sheikh Hasina-style” playbook.
Speaking at the party’s Dhaka’s Banani office on Thursday, he claimed that the caretaker administration is “determined to hold a one-sided vote”.
Quader said no election would be considered credible—at home or abroad—if political forces representing half the population are kept out of the process, reports bdnews24.com.
He noted that such polls can never be accepted as free or fair. “A large section of voters lose interest in casting their votes in such elections.
“As a result, actual voter turnout remains low.”
According to him, low turnout paves the way for forged ballots—manipulated through money, muscle power, and administrative influence—to determine the outcome.
Quader said elections held under these conditions cannot produce a “legitimate” government or bring political stability.
Without that, he warned, the worsening economic crisis and law and order will remain unchecked, pushing the country deeper into uncertainty.
