Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled Satkhira-4 lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party after an internal organisational investigation found him guilty of moral misconduct.

The decision was taken under Article 62 of the party's constitution, according to a statement signed by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer on Wednesday.

The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the party's Central Executive Council held at 4:00 pm at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition on Minto Road in the capital, the statement said.

The meeting was chaired by Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, MP, and attended by members of the Central Executive Council.

The party also decided to immediately notify the Election Commission about Gazi Nazrul Islam's expulsion.
