Russia has expressed interest in expanding bilateral trade with Bangladesh and supplying urea fertiliser at a ‘lower price’.
The proposal came during a meeting between Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir and a Russian delegation at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Russia offered to supply urea at “$10 less per tonne” than the price Bangladesh currently pays to other exporting countries, a statement from the ministry said.
However, it did not provide a price comparison or other details to independently verify the claimed discount.
The Russian delegation was led by Vyacheslav Sentyurin, chargé d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Dhaka.
The meeting focused on the two countries' longstanding ties and growing economic partnership, with particular emphasis on food security, agricultural cooperation, fertiliser supplies and expanding government-to-government trade.
