Today is the birthday of Sheikh Rehana, the youngest daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the youngest sister of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She was born in Gopalganj’s Tungipara this day in 1957, reports Prothom Alo.

Rehana and Hasina survived the assassination of the Bangabandhu and his family on August 15, 1975, as they went to travel in Germany — which was then the workplace of Dr MA Wazed Miah, the husband of Hasina — a few days ago.

On the fateful night, the daughters of Bangabandhu were staying in Belgium. Afterwards, they came to India via Germany and Rehana moved to London.

Rehana has never been seen directly involved in politics, but is known to the Awami League leaders and activists as “Chhoto Apa” (youngest sister), according to the Prothom Alo report.

She is married to Shafiq Ahmed Siddiq, now a retired Dhaka University professor, with three children — son Radwan Mujib Siddiq and daughters Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq.

Rehana's only son Radwan Mujib is the trustee of the Awami League’s research firm Centre for Research and Information (CRI), eldest daughter Tulip a two-time-elected British MP and youngest daughter Azmina a global risk analyser.
