The government has decided to hold the SSC examinations in January and the HSC examinations in June from 2027 in a move aimed at reducing session jams and aligning the academic calendar with university admission schedules.

Under the revised schedule, the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in 2027 will begin on January 7 and conclude on February 6, ahead of Ramadan, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Thursday.

The decision was announced at a press conference at the Ministry of Education at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon.

The minister said the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations would begin on June 6 and continue until July 13, 2027.

This year’s SSC examinations are currently underway, while the HSC examinations are scheduled to begin on July 2.

He said the government expects the revised timeline to help students receive their results in time for university admissions and minimise delays in academic progression.

“Nearly two academic years are lost because of the long gap surrounding the SSC and HSC examinations,” the minister said, adding that the government is working to reduce session jams and make better use of the country’s demographic dividend.

He also said publishing examination results currently takes around two months after the completion of the exams, though the government aims to shorten the timeframe.
