COX'S BAZAR, Oct 21: Suspected terrorists on Monday shot and killed three members of a family after entering their house in Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.

The incident took place at Rohingya camp No. 20 of Ukhiya upazila around 4 am.

The deceased are Ahmed Hossain (65), a resident of block 104 of No. 17 Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, his son Syedul Amin (28) and daughter Asma Begum (15).

Confirming the matter, Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arif Hossain said at least 15-20 unidentified terrorists shot the three victims dead after entering two blocks of Camp-20, adjacent to Lal Pahar in Ukhiya.

The victims sustained head, chest and neck injuries. The father and son died on the spot, while Asma was initially taken to the camp hospital with bullet injuries.

She died while she was being moved to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital to improve her condition. The victims were assigned to reside at Camp-17 but lived in Camp-20 on a temporary basis, according to the OC.

The police officer also said that there was a rumour that Syedul Amin was associated with terrorist activities for a long time, which may be the underlying reason behind him being brutally attacked and murdered along with his family.

The attackers managed to escape following the incident, the OC added.

Their bodies were recovered with the help of Armed Police Battalion and sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Legal actions are pending in this regard.

A member of the Rohingya community of the area said that Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) is involved in this incident, which is creating panic among the residents.
