The rush of people travelling to their ancestral homes has increased traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway before Eid-ul-Azha.
As many as 53,246 vehicles crossed the toll plaza in the 24 hours from 12:00am on Monday to 12:00am on Tuesday
A total of Tk 36.8 million was collected in tolls from these vehicles, Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, said on Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.
The Jamuna Bridge Authority said that 32,186 vehicles bound for north Bangladesh crossed the bridge during this time. Tolls of Tk 19.2 million was collected from them.
On the other hand, 21,060 vehicles bound for Dhaka have crossed the bridge, generating tolls of Tk 1.7million.
Riaz Uddin said that vehicles are crossing the bridge through 18 booths, nine on each end of the Jamuna Bridge during the Eid holidays. Motorcycles are crossing through two separate booths.
