A scuffle took place between police and traders when the authorities of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) shut down a market in the capital's Gulshan- 1 area on Thursday considering it as 'a risky structure'.

Sources said executive magistrate of DNCC during a drive sealed off Gulshan Shopping Centre at around 12:00 noon that enraged the traders and led them to scuffle with police.

The traders locked in an altercation with the officials of DNCC after the closure of the shipping centre.

Later the traders took to the nearby street and stayed there for around three and a half hours.

Police tried to persuade the traders to leave the road but they denied which enraged the law enforcers triggering a clash between the two sides. The traders also threw brick chips at policemen as they tried to disperse them in a bid to ensure normal traffic.

The incident disrupted traffic in the neighbourhood for four hours. An official at Gulshan police station told the FE that they succeeded in removing the traders from the road at around 3:45 pm. Vehicular movement on the road was restored at around 4:00 pm.

Some cars and buses were also ransacked by the traders while they were leaving the road. A significant number of policemen were deployed on the road for bringing the situation under control.
