Two men suspected of being involved in a mugging have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, or DMCH, after being hung from a footbridge in Uttara following a mob beating.

No case has been filed against them, reports bdnews24.com.

Police found the duo hanging upside down from the footbridge in front of the BNS Centre around 9pm on Tuesday and initially took them to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.

The suspects have been identified with the single names Nazim, 35, and Bakul, 40.

Sub-Inspector Md Mehedi Hasan of Uttara West Police Station took them to the DMCH on Wednesday afternoon.

“They have been shifted to Dhaka Medical for better treatment,” he said.

When asked whether anyone had brought charges of mugging against them, SI Mehedi said: “No, no. Who would file a case? No case has been lodged.”

“We are providing them treatment. Once they recover a bit, senior officials will decide on the next legal steps.”

Earlier on Tuesday night, Uttara East Police Station chief Shamim Ahmed said he could not confirm the full identities of the two men or verify the allegations against them.

He added that no one had been detained in connection with the incident.

A video of the event has circulated on social media, showing a group of people beating the two men while they were hanging from the bridge.
