AMTOB elects new president, VP

The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) has elected Michael Foley, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone, as its President. He is replacing AMTOB's outgoing President and CEO of Banglalink Erik Aas, said a statement.

Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Robi has been reelected as Vice-President of the association. The association’s board meeting took place on March 28, 2018.

Micheal Foley said, “Bangladesh has made impressive advances in telecommunications and the sector has played a commendable role in the development of the economy. However, with the changes in technologies new opportunities and challenges are arising.”

He added, “AMTOB looks forward to working with the government of Bangladesh, associated regulators and the industries to set a clear strategy to address those opportunities and challenges for further development of our society and the country.”

Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said “The telecom industry is well-poised in the context of the country’s digital aspirations. With the advent of 4G technology, the country is now equipped to embrace the 4th Industrial Revolution. This calls for a fresh dialogue among the telecom industry, the customers, the business community, the civil society members and the Government.”

“As the newly elected Vice President of AMTOB, I wish to lend my voice in this discussion to find digital solutions for the nation’s growth imperatives,” he added.


AMTOB is a national trade association representing all Mobile Telecom Operators in Bangladesh. Airtel, Banglalink, Citycell, Grameenphone, Robi and Teletalk – the six Mobile Network Operators are the General Members of the association and Mobile Network Solution providers Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia are its Associate Members.
