Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Faqir Mahbub Anam is participating in the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026 in Shanghai, China, where global leaders are discussing the future of artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and international AI governance.

The four-day conference, running from 17 to 20 July, was inaugurated on Friday by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The opening ceremony was also addressed by the President of Kazakhstan, the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations. The speakers stressed the growing importance of international cooperation in ensuring the responsible development and governance of artificial intelligence.

The conference has brought together heads of government, policymakers, technology leaders, researchers, innovators and representatives of leading global technology companies to discuss the future of artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, AI governance, innovation, digital transformation and sustainable development.

During the conference, Anam is scheduled to participate in a series of high-level sessions, bilateral meetings and discussions with global technology leaders and policymakers.

He will showcase Bangladesh's progress in digital transformation, AI-driven innovation, smart governance and human resource development, while exploring opportunities to strengthen international cooperation in artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, research, investment and capacity building.

According to a press release, Bangladesh's participation in WAIC 2026 reflects the government's commitment to harnessing artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to build a knowledge-based, innovation-driven and digitally empowered nation.
