Barcelona fell short of being the first team to advance to the Champions League knockout rounds, as Danylo Sikan stunned Barcelona by scoring the only goal to secure Shakhtar’s second victory in the group stage.

The Ukrainian side, playing in Hamburg, was aggressive on the counter-attack, with Sikan giving them a shock lead against the five-time European champions just before half-time in the 40th minute on the clock, according to a Reuters report.

Even though Barcelona controlled the ball for most of the game, the visiting team could not penetrate the defence of the Ukrainian champions.

However, the Catalonian giants stay top in Group H with nine points, and they will secure a spot in the knockout stages by not losing to Porto in their upcoming match on November 28.

Shakhtar's last win against Barcelona was in 2008. Currently, they hold the third position in Group H, having six points. Marino Pusic's squad aspires to advance to the knockout rounds, a feat they have not achieved since the 2017-18 season, during which they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Roma.
