Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will continue to play for the national team until a court finds him guilty, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said, a Bangla daily reports.
“The complaint against Shakib is still at the FIR stage. There are several more stages in the process. As long as he is not found guilty, we will allow him to play,” Faruque Ahmed was quoted as telling Prothom Alo.
The team is scheduled to visit India after their series in Pakistan, and the BCB wants Shakib to be part of that tour as well, he was also quoted to have said.
Shakib has recently been named in a murder case followed by a legal notice demanding his removal from the national team and his return to Bangladesh.
Mr Ahmed said that they have already replied to the legal notice and that they will provide Shakib with necessary legal assistance if necessary as he is under contract with them.
Shakib played a crucial role in Bangladesh's 10-wicket victory in the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, taking three wickets in the second innings.
