Shoeb Chowdhury, a tech entrepreneur, author, media personality, and director of Special Olympics, has been appointed as the new President of the Bangladesh Rowing Federation.
Through an official directive, the National Sports Council (NSC), under the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, dissolved the federation's existing ad-hoc committee and approved a robust new 24-member ad-hoc committee led by Chowdhury, who is also Honorary Consul of the Republic of Malta.
According to the official notification issued by the NSC, the previous committee failed to hold elections and hand over charges within the timeframe stipulated by the federation's constitution.
The committee comprises leading businessmen, high-ranking law enforcement officials, renowned physicians, and former national athletes, said a media release on Saturday.
This diverse inclusion is expected to ensure a dynamic, balanced, and strong governance structure for the federation's operations, it said.
The committee's office bearers include Vice-Presidents Khurshed Alam (former Chairman of Islami Bank and former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank), Md. Moniruzzaman (Additional IGP, Bangladesh Police), Dr. S.M.A. Aziz Russel (Consultant at National Medical College), and Sheikh Jahangir (former national athlete and sports organiser); General Secretary Mohammad Sarfuddin Ali (sports organiser and industrialist); Joint Secretaries Md. Rasel (Office Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity and journalist at Daily Manabzamin) and Jahangir Kabir Jon (sports organiser); and Treasurer Al Amin Choudhury (businessman and sports organiser).
The remaining 15 members of the committee consist of well-known and leading personalities from various sectors of the country.
Speaking on his appointment, the newly inducted President Shoeb Chowdhury said, "My primary objective will be to further strengthen the administrative and organizational structure of the federation, and to successfully conduct the upcoming general elections with utmost transparency."
