Daily trade turnover on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) surpassed Tk 12 billion-mark Wednesday after two weeks as enthusiastic investors put fresh stakes on stocks.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 12.01 billion on the country’s premier bourse, climbing by 55 per cent over previous day’s mark of Tk 7.77 billion.
It was the biggest single-day transaction in two weeks since August 17, when the turnover totalled a record Tk 14.08 billion.
Along with rising turnover, DSEX, prime index of DSE, rebounded in positive territory after a single-day break as buoyant investors went on buying shares riding on the regulatory steps to ensure accountability of the market stakeholders.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 29.30 points or 0.60 per cent to settle at 4,891, which is the highest level of DSEX in 11 months since October 7, 2019.
Market analysts said factors like lower returns on the money market, lucrative price level of listed securities and strong regulatory actions against wrongdoers helped buoy the market.
The enthusiastic investors continued their buying appetite on large-cap stocks amid growing confidence in the market following the regulator’s recent steps to bring discipline in the capital market, said a merchant banker.
Two other indices also ended higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 18.24 points to finish at 1,714 and the DSE Shariah Index rose 5.95 points to close at 1,137.
