Stock turnover nears Tk 5.0 billion after two hours of trading

Stocks opened higher on Sunday, with turnover reaching almost Tk 5.0 billion after two hours of trading, as the bargain hunters put fresh bets on insurance stocks in anticipation of short-term gains.

Following the previous week’s downturn, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 7.54 points to 6,309 after two hours of trading at 12:00 noon.

The DS30 Index, which consists of blue-chip companies, also gained 3.22 points to 2,137. However, the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, saw a fractional loss of 0.51 point to 1,360.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, amounted to Tk4.82 billion after two hours of trading.

The insurance stocks dominated the turnover chart with Paramount Insurance was the most-traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 312 million changing, followed by Provati Insurance, Unique Hotel & Resorts, Continental Insurance and Meghna Life Insurance.

Of the issues traded till then, 88 declined, 69 advanced, and 124 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – rising 32 points to 18,658 till then.
