Ten most traded companies accounted for 28 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with the United Power Generation & Distribution Company grabbing the top spot on the turnover chart.
Market analysts said investors continued to show their appetite for the United Power shares as the company recommended healthy dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2019.
The power generation company has recommended 130 per cent cash and 10 per cent stock dividend. The record date is September 8.
The United Power and its major shareholder United Mymensingh Power recently executed an agreement with an international private equity group for an investment of Tk 8.5 billion (approximately US$100 million) which also encouraged investors, said a leading broker.
According to the DSE data, 696,378 shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 273 million, which was 6.65 per cent of the total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.10 billion on Thursday, down from Tk 4.49 billion in the previous day.
The company's share closed at Tk 395.10 each, gaining 1.20 per cent over the previous day.
The United Power, listed on the DSE in April 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividends in 2018.
Khulna Power came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 154 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 3.0 per cent to close at Tk 58.40 each.
JMI Syringes clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 105 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 509.80, shedding 0.70 per cent.
Grameenphone (GP) emerged the fourth, with shares worth Tk 102 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.35 per cent to close at Tk 317.70 each.
Fortune Shoes notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 93 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 40.30 each, gaining 3.60 per cent.
The turnover of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation was Tk 91 million. The state-run company's share price rose 3.93 per cent to close at Tk 58.20.
Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 89 million. The company's share closed at Tk 212.30 each, advancing 3.26 per cent.
The turnover of Bangas was Tk 87 million. The company's share price rose 6.62 per cent to close at Tk 318.90 each.
Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company featured a turnover of Tk 82 million. The company's share closed at Tk 130.10, gaining 3.34 per cent.
Square Pharmaceuticals also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart.
