Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) industry has added four more Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified factories, further strengthening the country’s position as the global leader in green garment manufacturing.

The newly certified factories are Canvas Garments Pvt. Ltd., Matrix Sweaters Ltd., Karim Textiles Limited, and Karim Tex Limited.

Among them, Canvas Garments Pvt. Ltd. in Chattogram secured Platinum certification under the LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 rating system with 90 points, while Matrix Sweaters Ltd. in Gazipur also achieved Platinum certification under the same rating system with 88 points.

Karim Textiles Limited in Gazipur earned Gold certification under LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 with 73 points, while Karim Tex Limited in Dhamrai received Silver certification under LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4 with 53 points.

With these latest additions, Bangladesh now has 290 LEED-certified RMG factories, including 125 Platinum-rated and 145 Gold-rated facilities. The country also accounts for 53 of the world’s top 100 highest-scoring LEED-certified factories, underscoring its leadership in sustainable apparel manufacturing.

Mohiuddin Rubel, a former director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said the new certifications reflect the industry’s continued commitment to sustainability, resource efficiency and environmentally responsible manufacturing despite global economic challenges.

He said Bangladesh’s growing portfolio of green factories has strengthened the country’s reputation as a preferred sourcing destination for global apparel brands that increasingly prioritise sustainability and environmental compliance.
