'Bangladesh exports medicines to 151 countries'

Health Minister Mohammed Nasim has said Bangladesh is currently exporting medicines to more than 151 countries across the world.

India, Sri Lanka, Germany, USA, France, Italy, UK, Canada, The Netherlands and Denmark are the biggest importers of Bangladeshi medicines, minister said.

Nasim also mentioned that pharmaceutical companies of Bangladesh are producing good quality of drugs, reports UNB.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting with officials of One Pharma Ltd at the conference room of Commerce Ministry at Secretariat in Dhaka on Saturday.

“Once Bangladesh used to import most of the drugs what we needed, but now situation has changed over the last two decades,” he added.

Nasim requested the pharmaceutical companies to reduce the prices of drugs so that common people of the country can afford it.

“I am requesting to the owners of the pharmaceutical companies to cut down the prices of medicines so people of middle income can afford the cost of drugs easily,” he said.

Managing Director of One Pharma KSM Mostafizur Rahman presided over the function while Secretary to the Medical Education and Family Welfare G M Saleh Uddin, Director General (DG) at Directorate General of Drug Administration Major General M Mustafizur Rahman and DG of health services Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad were present, among others.
