Bangladesh, Georgia agree to boost bilateral ties, find potentials immense

Bangladesh and Georgia have proposed a number of agreements to further strengthen the bilateral relations and mutual engagements between the two countries.

The first ever Foreign Office Consultation was held on Tuesday between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and the Foreign Ministry of Georgia here and discussed the issues.

The two countries discussed education, cultural exchange, cooperation in agriculture, export, exchange of trade delegations, investment in tourism as priority areas in boosting bilateral ties.

Foreign Secretary Md. Shahidul Haque led the Bangladesh side and David Jalagania, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia led the Georgian side, reports UNB.

The Foreign Secretary also briefed them of the adverse impacts of climate change on Bangladesh, Bangladesh’s fight against terrorism and extremism and the recent Rohingya crisis.

Visits of high level delegations like ministers, executives and policy makers and judiciary were considered to be the next course of action.

Both the sides noted that the two countries enjoyed excellent bilateral relations but the potential to expand the gamut of bilateral relations remains immense.

The Foreign Secretary apprised him of the development activities and achievements of the present government under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He also briefed him of the regional initiatives taken by Bangladesh to increase the connectivity and proposed to explore multimodal connectivity between Bangladesh and Georgia.

The two countries also talked about providing mutual support at the global level, like in the same international bodies.
