The biennial election of the Bangladesh Packaging and Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPAMEA) for the 2026-28 term will be held on August 1, with voting required for only six posts out of the association’s 27 posts after most candidates were elected unopposed.
A total of 29 candidates filed nominations for the 27-member board, comprising one president, six vice presidents and 20 directors. Following the withdrawal of nominations, six vice presidents and 15 directors from the Oikko Parishad panel were elected unopposed, leaving contests only for the post of president and five director positions from the Chattogram region.
According to the Election Board’s final list of candidates, Md. Shahriar, Managing Director of Adzi Trims Ltd. and panel leader of Oikko Parishad, will contest the presidential election against Jamil Ahmed of Britannia Label BD Ltd., who is running as an independent candidate.
The six vice presidents elected unopposed are Shahzada Mahmud Chowdhury as First Vice President (Chattogram), Md. Maniruzzaman Molla as Senior Vice President, Jahir Uddin Alamgir as Second Vice President, Md. Saiful Islam (Sabuz) as Vice President (Finance), and Zahir Uddin Md. Babur and Kazi Fahad as Vice Presidents.
Voting will also be held to elect five directors from the Chattogram region. The Oikko Parishad nominees are Bashir Ahmed of Pam Complex, Mohammad Sayem Uddin of High Speed Packaging & Accessories, Belal Uddin of Blue Pack Ltd., Md. Fazlul Karim (Sahed) of Sufi Dyeing & Accessories Industries, and Abul Fazal Md. Ibnul Hasan of Hasan Trims & Accessories.
The only candidate from the Chattogram region outside the Oikko Parishad panel, Md. Fazla Elahee, Director of Holy Elastic, applied to withdraw his candidacy on July 17. However, the Election Board did not accept his application as the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations had expired on July 4. Consequently, polling will be held for all five director posts in the Chattogram region.
Speaking at an Oikko Parishad panel introduction programme in Dhaka on Saturday, panel leader Md. Shahriar unveiled the alliance’s 11-point election manifesto.
Addressing the programme, Kazi Fahad, who was elected unopposed as Vice President, said the association had renamed itself the Bangladesh Packaging and Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPAMEA) by dropping the word “Garments”, reflecting the fact that its members now manufacture packaging and accessories for a broad range of industries beyond the apparel sector.
Among the special guests were Mohammad Abdullah, founder of Al Muslim Group; former BGMEA President Faruque Hassan; BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem; BTMA President Showkat Aziz Russell; Bangladesh Employers’ Federation President Fazle Shamim Ehsan; BAYLA President Abrar Hossain Sayem; former BPGMEA Presidents Rafez Alam Chowdhury, Abdul Kader Khan, and Moyazzem Hossain Moti; BKMEA Director Imran Kader Turjo; and BGBA Vice President Md. Roman Mia.
According to the Election Board, polling will be held simultaneously from 9:00am to 4:00pm at Hall 5 of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka and the BGMEA Auditorium in South Khulshi, Chattogram. Vote counting will begin immediately after polling concludes, with the results to be announced on the same day.
