Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF) and Thai Union Feedmill Public Company Limited (TFM) teamed up to strengthen long-term collaboration to facilitate the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector in Bangladesh, especially in the coastal region.
In this connection, BSFF chairman Syed Mahmudul Huq and TFM director Hathai Nantatong signed a memorandum of understanding at a ceremony held recently, where the ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand, Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, among others, was present, according to a statement.
The MoU builds upon the successful partnership initiated in 2021 and reinforced by a groundbreaking pilot project in 2023–2024, it said, adding it focuses on advancing sustainable farming practices for high-value species, including Asian sea bass, black tiger shrimp, whiteleg shrimp, and mono-sex giant freshwater prawn.
Under the new MoU, initiatives would be taken collectively for significant future modernisation efforts in some key areas, like the development of high-value genetically suitable strains of sea bass in Bangladesh, research for the purpose, the development of breeding facilities with, among others, private sector collaborations for brood stock development and production of fingerlings to meet the anticipated domestic demands.
Comprehensive actions will also be undertaken, demonstrating the potential for production of the species in Bangladesh, training of skilled manpower to work both at hatcheries and grow-out levels as well as final product processing and marketing.
