The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) has recovered more than Tk 1.91 million in additional duties, taxes and penalties after detecting false declaration in an imported consignment at Chattogram Port.
According to a statement of the CIID, its Chattogram regional office, acting on confidential information, physically examined a consignment imported by Rainbow Corporation under Bill of Entry No. C-1138706, dated July 5, 2026.
The examination found that the importer had declared 6,704.56 kilograms of chocolate, while the actual quantity was 7,132.25 kilograms. Similarly, the declared quantity of wafer was 2,572.16 kilograms, whereas 2,684.88 kilograms were found during the inspection.
Overall, the consignment contained 540.41 kilograms more goods than declared, representing 5.83 per cent discrepancy over the declared net weight, officials said.
Following adjudication, customs authorities realised Tk 813,440.57 in additional customs duties and taxes. They also imposed a Tk 1.0 million financial penalty and a Tk 100,000 redemption fine.
In total, the government recovered Tk 1,913,440.57 from the importer, the CIID said.
