Eid Shopping in Chattogram: Shoppers eagerly await ‘Chand Raat’

The people of Chattogram are eagerly waiting for ‘Chand Raat’ (the last night of Ramadan, which is observed marking the eve of Eid-al-Fitr) to go on a shopping binge for the upcoming festival.
Following a tradition, a fairly large number of people wait to buy their Eid dresses on this very night-- Chand Raat. Accordingly, businessmen in the markets of the port city of Chattogram also expect a sale boom on the eve of the festival.
The markets of port city will remain open whole day and night from March 26 as Eid shopping has already gained momentum.
Townspeople are crowding the city markets to buy dresses for their family members and near and dear ones for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslim community.
The law enforcing agencies including Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have taken special measures to control law and order situation, especially preventing incidents of snatching, looting and extortion in the port city during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

Police have set up check posts and deployed a large number of policemen at the strategic points and the gates of markets. As a result, the market-going buyers can remain safer this time than previous years.
Meanwhile, some of the apparel brands and fashion outlets in the port city have already offered discounts on several products, marking the Eid festival, and are also giving gift coupons to attract customers.
Over 1,000 shopping centres and several thousand shops of the city remain crowded with Eid shoppers.
A large number of customers irrespective of males, females and children throng the markets of the city to purchase dresses of their choice for the Eid festival.
The shopping centres of the Chattogram city including the posh BipaniBitan (New Market), Reazuddin Bazaar, Lucky Plaza, Southland Centre, Highway Plaza, Central Plaza, Mimi Super Market, Chottagram Shopping Complex, Apollo Shopping Centre, Bay Shopping Centre, Amin Shopping Centre, Singapore Market, VIP Tower, Agrabad Shopping Centre, Chawk Bazaar and all other markets are drawing Eid-shoppers in large numbers.
Besides, all the shopping complexes have been colourfully decorated and illuminated to present an enthralling view to the customers.
The majority of the customers are female who in selection of the products, mostly sarees and cosmetics, move from shop to shop to collect their favorite ones. Besides, Jahur Hawker Market and footpath shops are the only source for Eid shopping for the poor segment of population.
