The main focus of the interim government is to keep the prices of daily essentials at a tolerable level during the holy month of Ramadan, said Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, on Saturday.
Addressing a press briefing in the city, he said the prices of essential commodities are much lower this Ramadan compared to that of the previous holy months.
He said that prices of certain commodities like edible oil and dates tend to go up during this period due to their high demand. "Considering this aspect, the government has been making preparations to keep the prices at a tolerable level" he said.
In this connection, he pointed out that Dr. Muhammad Yunus in October last year directed all the ministries and departments concerned, which are linked to commodity markets, to work heart and soul to reduce the prices.
He said the government is monitoring the supply and demand situation of the edible oil and taking measures to boost its availability through imports.
Responding to a question on the reports that the Pirojpur district administration requisitioned five buses for some supporters to help them attend the launching rally of the National Citizens Committee on Friday, he said it was done on the request of the family members of the July fighters. The government did not pay the bus rent, he added.
The press conference was also told that the news regarding the highway robbery on five buses in Pabna was exaggerated by some media outlets, as they mentioned that 10 buses came under attack by the robbers.
