Min. wages for hotel, restaurant workers fixed at Tk 13,050

The government has categorised hotels and restaurants based on their number of rooms and seats and announced minimum monthly wages for the workers and employees of the sector accordingly.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) on May 05 issued a gazette notification categorising hotels into five and restaurants into four groups. It announced Tk 13,050 as minimum monthly wages for the workers of the sector with five per cent annual increment.

According to the notification, hotels having at least 10 rooms has been categorised as one-star, followed by two-star having 30 rooms, three-star having 50 rooms, four-star having 75 rooms and five-star hotels having 100 rooms.

Restaurants with up to 100 seats have been classified as Grade D, followed by Grade C with 101-200 seats, Grade B with 201-300 sitting arrangement and Grade A with more than 300 seats.

Workers and employees of Grade 3 at one-star hotel and Grade 4 at Grade D restaurant will get Tk 13050 as minimum monthly wages with 7,500 as basic pay, and 50 per cent of the basic-Tk 3750-as house rent.

The minimum monthly wages for Grade 3 workers at two-, three-, four- and five-star hotels will be Tk 13,650, Tk 14,700, Tk 15,750 and 16,800 respectively. On the other hand, minimum wages for Grade 4 workers at Grade C, B and A restaurants has been fixed at Tk 13,650, Tk 14,700 and Tk 15750 respectively.

Medical and transport allowances have been set at Tk 1,000 and Tk 800 respectively for all types of workers. On the other hand, an apprentice worker will receive Tk 9,300 in gross wages during a six-month apprenticeship period, according to the notification.
