Vitol Asia Pte Ltd. continues dominating the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market in Bangladesh, with securing two more cargo supply bids on Wednesday.
The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) on the day approved two separate proposals by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, allowing Petrobangla to buy two cargoes of LNG from the Singapore-based company.
One of the cargoes will cost the exchequer Tk 5.49 billion and another Tk 5.55 billion.
Earlier on April 29, the company had secured the bid to supply one cargo of LNG at a cost of Tk 5.44 billion, following two other cargoes awarded on April 22 and April 8 respectively.
During the ousted Awami League government, Vitol was one of the top LNG suppliers to Bangladesh.
The meeting was held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, who joined the event virtually.
The meeting also approved a proposal to buy 25,000 tonnes of TSP fertiliser for the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) from Groupe Chimique Tunisien (GCT), Tunisia.
The purchase will cost the exchequer Tk 1.56 billion where each tonne of fertiliser will cost US$ 513.75.
Moreover, the meeting approved two more proposals on power supply system development in Chattogram zone costing a total of Tk 9.84 billion.
