Walton Plaza has provided Tk 100,582 in financial assistance to the family of a customer who died while repaying instalments for an air conditioner purchased from one of its outlets.

The support was provided under the company’s Hire Purchase and Family Protection Policy, which waives outstanding instalments and offers financial assistance to the families of eligible customers in the event of their death, according to a media release.
The cheque was handed over to Atia Akter Lina, wife of the late Shafiqul Islam, at Walton Plaza’s Adalat Road outlet in Tangail on Tuesday.
Shafiqul purchased the air conditioner on January 24, 2026, for Tk 118,152 under Walton Plaza’s instalment scheme. After paying five instalments, he died following a stroke. Under the protection policy, the company waived the remaining instalments and, after adjusting the outstanding balance, paid Tk 100,582 to his family.
“My husband’s death left us in a very difficult financial situation, and it was impossible for us to continue paying the instalments,” Lina said.
“Walton Plaza stood by us in our time of need. I am grateful for their support,” she added.
Walton Plaza said customers purchasing products on instalments receive an instalment protection card under the programme. If a customer dies while the instalment plan is active, the company provides financial assistance ranging from Tk 50,000 to Tk 300,000, depending on the product’s value. In the case of the death of an eligible family member, assistance ranges from Tk 25,000 to Tk 150,000 is provided.
In both cases, the outstanding instalment amount is adjusted first, and the remaining balance is paid to the customer or the customer’s family, the company said.
Among those present at the cheque handover ceremony were BNP's former member secretary of Tangail district Mahmudul Haque Sanu, district Swechhasebak Dal member secretary Saleh Mohammad Shafi Ethen, former councillor Sujaual Karim Manik, former Tangail Sadar Chhatra Dal president Mohammad Lavlu Mia Labu, and Walton Chief Divisional Officer Shahadat Hossain.
