EVERY year on the eve of Eid holidays home-bound people have to undergo immense sufferings to reach their homes to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones. Serious traffic congestions at different points make life difficult for them. It is a particularly painful exercise for children, elderly people and women. Every day both the print and electronic media carry the tormenting stories of the home bound journey of the people. Most of the buses were late by several hours on last Thursday due to heavy terrific jam. The situation, however, is likely to improve in the coming days and the home-bound people will be able to travel with relative ease and comfort. A huge number of vehicles carrying sacrificial animals are stuck on their way to different places of the country. They will also soon find their way out and reach their respective destinations. It is often alleged by the cattle traders that they face undue harassment, including extortion. The government should tighten up security arrangements to drive out these social evils from the roads and make journey easier for the cattle traders. This will also help reduce traffic congestions on the way as trucks are delayed by extortionists at different points.
