Donald Trump has told CBS News that he was “not worried” during a shooting incident, although authorities believe the president and other senior government figures may have been targets.

“I wasn’t worried. I understand life. We live in a crazy world,” Trump said on Sunday.

At 20:35 ET on Saturday, a suspected gunman entered the foyer of the Washington Hilton hotel. Shots were fired, prompting Secret Service agents to evacuate Donald Trump and members of his cabinet from the room.

One Secret Service officer was injured but is expected to make a full recovery.

Suspect Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California, is expected to be formally charged in a Washington court on Monday.

The incident comes as King Charles III is due to arrive in Washington at 15:00 ET. His state visit will proceed as planned, Buckingham Palace said, with minor adjustments to some events.
