Bangladesh Bank’s monetary policy committee to get external experts

Bangladesh Bank has decided to restructure its monetary policy committee with the inclusion of three external economists.

The decision was taken during the 430th meeting of the central bank’s board of directors held on Sunday with Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder in the chair, local newspapers said.

As per the decision, the central bank’s governor, deputy governor of the monetary policy department, chief economist and executive director will be the members of the monetary policy committee.

The central bank’s board of directors decided to include the head of the Department of Economics of Dhaka University and the director general of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies in the committee. An eminent economist of the country will also be chosen as a member of the committee.

Before the latest decision of the board of directors, the monetary policy committee consisted of internal members of the central bank.
