The inflation rate jumped to a record high at 11.38 per cent in November, 0.51 percentage points higher than the previous month of October, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The inflation, both headline and core, increased in November despite the central bank's efforts to curb it through tight monetary policy.

This erodes the real income of people.

However, the point-to-point inflation rate climbed to 11.38 per cent in November, up from 10.87 per cent in October hitting hard the limited income bracket of people.

Food inflation surged to 13.8 per cent during the month.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, also edged higher, reaching 9.39 per cent in November compared to 9.34 per cent in the previous month.

The BBS released the data on Thursday morning, reflecting the continuing challenge of managing price pressures in the economy.
