Inflation increases marginally in March

The rate of inflation in March has increased marginally, mainly due to surges in the prices of non-food items in urban areas, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The BBS, in its publication released on Tuesday, said that the overall inflation rate stood at 9.35 per cent, up by 0.03 percentage point from February.

The national-level non-food inflation increased by 9.7 per cent in March, up by 0.32 percentage points in February.

The rural overall inflation, however, stood at 9.41 per cent, down by 0.10 percentage point from February.

The urban inflation stood at 9.66 per cent, up 0.32 percentage point from the February gauge.

People familiar with the development told The Financial Express that the buying of Eid-related goods, including clothing, during the month contributed largely to the surge in non-food inflation
