Protesting Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) students scuffled with police at Dhaka University over exams held in adverse weather and the education minister's alleged derogatory remarks.

The incident occurred near the gate of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall around 12:45pm on Tuesday.

Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir later spoke to the students to calm the situation.

Around 11:45am, students from Dhaka College and other institutions blocked the Science Laboratory intersection to protest, demanding the resignation of Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon.

They later marched through the Dhaka University campus towards the education board.

Blocked at Mohsin Hall, the protesters moved to the Nilkhet intersection at 1pm before marching towards the education board via Chankharpul around 1:45pm.

Students shouted slogans including "Who are you, who am I, farm chickens”, "Who said it, the education minister”, "One point, one demand, minister's resignation”, and "Burn it down”, while carrying placards demanding the exam's postponement and the minister's resignation.

The protesters outlined three demands:

• HSC and equivalent exams must be postponed until the ongoing disaster situation across the country fully subsides.

• A retake must be arranged for students unable to sit the Jul 13 exam due to adverse weather.

• Minister Milon must resign within 24 hours.
