BTV Chattogram Centre starts airing 24-hour programme

After its inception way back in 1996, Bangladesh Television (BTV) Chattogram Centre started broadcasting its programme for 24 hours today (Sunday).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme through videoconferencing from Ganobhaban.

However, the people of Chattogram also expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for the inauguration of the 24-hour programme.

General Manager of BTV Chattogram Centre Netai Kumar said Chattogram Centre of Bangladesh Television started airing its six-hour programme on December 31 in 2019 while 9-hour programme on April 13 in 2019 and 12-hour programme on January 26 in 2020.

"On December 19 in 1996, TV centre started its journey with one-and-a-half-hour programme. After long 25 years, we have started airing its 24-hour programme. We need cooperation of people as well as artistes and intellectuals in this regard," he added.

Awami League lawmaker Mosharaf Hossain said, "From now on, this TV channel will uphold culture, heritage, history, business and lifestyle of people in Chattogram, Chattogram Hill Tracts, Cox's Bazar, Noakhali, Cumilla, and Sylhet division. People of 11 districts can enjoy the programme."

President of Chattogram City Awami League Alhaj Mahatab Uddin Chowdhury said, "On behalf of the people of Chattogram, we request you to set BTV Chattogram Centre as a full-fledged centre."

It may be mentioned that TV centre started its journey on December 19 in 1996 with one-and-a-half-hour programme. Earlier, the centre used to air programmes and news for only two hours through terrestrial channel. Now the people can watch the programmes from any part of the country through satellite channel, said officials at TV centre. Even the expatriates can also enjoy the programmes, they added.
