BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has defended the Army Chief’s recent remarks on restoring democracy, saying there is no reason for expressing concern about this.
“He spoke about bringing back democracy. What’s wrong with it?” Khosru rhetorically asked, noting that the nation was eagerly waiting to hear from the Army Chief after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster on August 5.
The senior BNP leader was speaking at the relaunch of online news portal ‘sheershanews.com’ at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Monday.
Warning against dividing the national unity, Khosru said the sacrifices made during the July uprising must be recognised.
“History must be acknowledged. We cannot forget those who died or endured prison and torture,” he said.
He also criticised attempts to claim individual credit for recent political developments, saying such efforts risk dividing the nation.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahboob Zubair and BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Ismail Zabihullah, among others, spoke at the event.
