Bangladesh's coronavirus cases have neared 240,000 and deaths reached 3,132, as the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 2,199 cases and 21 deaths on Saturday.
The new cases bring the country’s total to 239,860, the DGHS said while briefing the media live about the latest coronavirus situation in the country at 2:30pm.
It also confirmed 1,117 recoveries from the contagion recorded in the 24 hours to 8:00am, taking the total recovery tally to 136,253.
The virtual briefing was also told that 8,802 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours under review, taking the total test count to 1,185,611.
Bangladesh first confirmed its coronavirus cases and death respectively on March 08 and March 18.
Globally, 17,780,342 people have caught coronavirus, 683,463 died and 11,179,822 recovered as of 2:41pm, with the US becoming the worst-hit country with 4,706,180 cases and 156,764 deaths, according to the worldometer.info.
