The government is going to dismiss nine senior police officers as they were convicted by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in crimes against humanity cases.

Earlier the Police Headquarters on July 6, 2026 sent an official notification to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Police Headquarters sent relevant documents to the ministry concerned including the court judgment, arrest warrant and trial orders to enable dismissal or subsequent legal proceedings against the implicated individuals.

The letter said that measures against those implicated in the crimes would continue.

The convicted officers include former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Dhaka Range DIG Syed Nurul Islam, former Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty, former Dhaka district Superintendent of Police (SP) Asaduzzaman, former additional SP Abdullahil Kafi, former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shah Alam Md Akhtarul Islam, former additional SP (Savar Circle) Shahidul Islam, and former Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Imrul.
