The government has constituted a six-member high-level cabinet committee to recommend the necessary power tariff adjustment both at the wholesale and retail levels amid the persistent Middle East crisis, volatile oil prices in the international market and soaring power generation costs.
Headed by the finance minister, other members of the committee include the minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR), the minister of commerce, and the secretaries of the Finance Division, Power Division, and Energy and Mineral Resources Division, according to a gazette notification issued on April 9.
The committee will examine the necessity of revising electricity tariffs in light of global instability affecting the country’s energy sector.
After review, it will present clear proposals to the Cabinet.
The committee has the authority to add additional members if required.
Meetings will be held as necessary, with administrative support provided by the Power Division.
The decision took immediate effect, with the notification issued under the order of the president by Additional Secretary Humayun Kabir.
